Just what I wanted
The inside of the fore crown has been treated or painted with a plastic stiffener that prevents the crown from being molded to the head as genuine Panama hats should. This stiffening causes the straw on the fore ridge to split and fray
An excellent hat, professionally packed and delivered. It just wasn't quite what I was looking for - rather stiff, lacking breathability, and rim tilts upwards which limits the shade on your ears.

Really disappointed that 59 cm proved to be definitely too big, although I have other hats (one too small 58, at least one 59 right size) which indicated that this should fit. I'm not skilled enough to add a photo to this, although I could send one or more separately to prove my point. I can't face trying to send it back, so will wait till I can get to the shops to buy a replacement. Ah well, I'll put it down to experience.
